lyrics

Old Dog

Let me be unto my Lord, as my old dog is to me.
He don't ask for nothing - he's happy just to be here,
Sitting at my feet and looking up with love,
Saying, “Oh my Lord and master, send thy grace down from above.”

Old Shep has been my friend since he was just a pup.
He took care of all my grand kids when they were coming up.
And he comes when I call him and he does just what I say.
Won't you help me Lord in heaven just to be with you that way?

Let me be unto my Lord, as my old dog is to me.
He don't ask for nothing - he's happy just to be here,
Sitting at my feet and looking up with love,
Saying, “Oh my Lord and master, send thy grace down from above.”

Whatever path I set him on, he's not afraid to go.
He has battled through flood waters and struggled through deep snow.
When his tail wags for the last time, he'll still be brave, I know.
He'll come running when you call him from this earthly plane below.

Let me be unto my Lord, as my old dog is to me.
He don't ask for nothing - he's happy just to be here,
Sitting at my feet and looking up with love,
Saying, “Oh my Lord and master, send thy grace down from above.”

Well we're both getting old now; we can hardly get around.
We just sit here by the window, while the world goes ‘round and ‘round.
We'll be coming soon to see you, Lord, my faithful dog and I.
We'll be pawing at the gates of your palace in the sky.

Let me be unto my Lord, as my old dog is to me.
He don't ask for nothing - he's happy just to be here,
Sitting at my feet and looking up with love,
Saying, “Oh my Lord and master, send thy grace down from above.”
